Rep. Todd Young Votes to Eliminate Burdensome Regulations on Job-Creating Businesses

Rep. Todd Young (R-IN) voted in favor of H. Res. 72 on Friday, a measure that would instruct House committees to review existing, pending and proposed federal regulations for elimination if they hinder private-sector job creation and growth, or require undue paperwork and cost burdens on small businesses.

"I firmly believe that if we want to create jobs and put Hoosiers back to work, we must start by making it easier to do business in this country," said Young. "Too often, burdensome regulations drive up the cost of doing business, which in turn drives down the number of employed Americans."

The vote in the House today comes on the heels of an Executive Order signed by President Obama just a few weeks ago that instructed federal agencies to do periodic reviews of existing regulations.

"I applaud the President, but we must act even more quickly and comprehensively to remove unnecessary obstacles for our job creators," said Young. "On average, the Federal government issues 8,000 new regulations each year. As I've talked to small businesses all across the district, they've told me we've got to reverse that trend because they are being suffocated."

The vote on H. Res. 72 passed by an overwhelming margin of 391-28.
