Cornyn Statement on the Second Anniversary of the Failed Stimulus

Statement

Date: Feb. 17, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

As Democrats rolled out their plan to "win the future' with more spending just a day before the Second Anniversary of their failed stimulus, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) today responded with the following statement:

Two years ago today, the Obama Administration told the American people their trillion dollar stimulus would keep unemployment below 8 percent, create 3.5 million jobs and "jumpstart' the economy. With unemployment sitting at 9 percent and 14 million Americans still looking for work, even the President had no choice but to admit that the recovery has been "painfully slow.'

To mark the occasion, the President has introduced a budget that would double the national debt and raise taxes while Senate Democrats are proposing even more spending. It should come as no surprise that these proposals have been met with outrage by the American taxpayer and cynicism from those still in the unemployment line.
