Straight Talk: Small Business Owners Testify at 1099 Hearing

One of the top priorities for the new Republican Majority is eliminating poorly-conceived federal regulations that create hurdles for American business owners. As part of this goal, the House Small Business Committee on Wednesday took an in-depth look at one of the most devastating regulations scheduled to hit small businesses in 2012: the health care law's 1099 reporting mandate.

During our hearing, Buried in Paperwork: A 1099 Update, Committee Members heard testimony from four small business owners from Colorado, Kentucky, Maryland and North Carolina. Each entrepreneur described the strain that this mandate would put on their businesses, and expressed worry that one more unmanageable regulation could push them into failure. Needless to say, they all strongly opposed the 1099 reporting mandate and urged its immediate repeal.

Although the economy may be showing signs of recovery, the business owners who testified at our hearing illustrated how regulations like this one force them to focus on paperwork instead of creating jobs and growing their business.
