Graves Leads Fight against Job-Destroying Federal Regulations

House Small Business Committee Chairman Sam Graves (R-MO) today spoke on the House Floor in support of H.Res. 72, a resolution that directs certain committees, including the Small Business Committee, to review existing, pending and proposed regulations with respect to their effect on jobs and economic growth.

During his remarks, Chairman Graves said, "Harmful federal regulations can put serious hurdles in the way of entrepreneurship, making it more difficult to create jobs or expand a business. As we try to encourage a lasting, stable economic recovery, it is critical we review and analyze the impact of proposed and existing regulations on small businesses. We must make sure regulators are not making irreversible decisions that could strain the competitive ability of small businesses, prevent expansion, reduce access to capital and harm the overall growth of the American economy."

Chairman Graves also pointed out that the sheer volume of federal regulations has become unmanageable for small business owners. Over the last three decades, the size of the Federal Register has skyrocketed from 42,000 pages in 1980 to 82,000 pages in 2010.
