Senator Rand Paul (Ky.) has co-sponsored a Balanced Budget Amendment proposal introduced by Senator Mike Lee (Utah). The legislation would add an amendment to the U.S. Constitution requiring the federal government to balance the budget, restricting any spending beyond set budget restraints.
"Despite our fiscal crisis, we have people here in Washington still willing to mortgage our children's future by funding federal programs we don't need and simply cannot afford," Sen. Paul said. "A real discussion about the budget must begin now--our economy cannot wait any longer."
"That's why this Balanced Budget Amendment that Senator Lee and I are proposing is so vitally important. We need an iron-clad rule that restrains government spending," he continued.
