Congresswoman Chellie Pingree talks about "exciting new opportunities" during ceremony in Brunswick today
Congresswoman Chellie Pingree participated this morning in a ceremony transferring ownership of the airport facilities at the Brunswick Naval Air Station to the local redevelopment authority. The transfer from the Navy will allow the former base to become a working, public airport later this spring.
"No one wanted to see the Brunswick Naval Air Station leave the Midcoast--but because of the hard work, perseverance and dedication of this community, that loss is being turned into exciting new opportunities," Pingree said. "The transfer of the airport facility today is an important milestone."
Pingree joined Governor LePage and local officials for the ceremony in Brunswick this morning. The airport facilities will reopen as the Brunswick Executive Airport on April 2 and the rest of the Navy base will formally close May 31.
