Rep. Scott DesJarlais stopped by Winchester Saturday morning as part of a "Meet Your Member of Congress" with constituents to better get to know folks around the fourth district.

During his visit to San Miguel's, where a group of around 30 people came out to meet the congressman, DesJarlais announced that he would be opening a district office right here in Winchester to go along with offices in Columbia and Crossville.

This was the first in a series of public meetings that Congressman DesJarlais will be hosting in towns and cities across Tennessee's Fourth District in the upcoming year and marked the Congressman's first district event since being sworn in as a Member of Congress.

Rep. DesJarlais thanked supporters for coming out and said he enjoyed meeting with folks here in Franklin County. He spoke for several minutes about his plans moving the country forward and took questions from the audience.

The congressman also talked about the State of the Union speech held last week in the nation's capital.

"I thought it was a terrible speech," DesJarlais said.

But, DesJarlais did note there were things in the speech he did like hearing from the president.

Asked whom he sat with for the speech, Rep. DesJarlais said he sat with the Tennessee delegation--mainly made up of Republicans.

He didn't sit with Rep. Steve Cohen a Democrat from Memphis who's recently come under fire for comparing Republican talking points to those of Nazi Germany.

"Steve had a bad day," DesJarlais said.

All in all, the event was a happy one and it's encouraged anytime your congressman is in the area to come out and meet them. Your voice matters, DesJarlais said.
