For those currently in the Social Security System, we can't "change the rules in the middle of the game." So if you are already close to retirement or receiving Social Security, I will protect your benefits. I also recognize that if we continue the system as is, it will become insolvent and our children and grandchildren will be left out.
We need to analyze the problem and come up with solutions to protect Social Security for young Americans. Fixing Social Security is a necessary first step in addressing the looming entitlement crisis that includes not just Social Security, but also Medicare and Medicaid. To this end, I have endorsed A Roadmap for America's Future, which charts a sustainable path for these programs without affecting individuals over the age of 55. This plan, developed by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI), is online for all to see at www.roadmap.republicans.budget.house.gov. I believe Paul Ryan's Roadmap is aligned with the values that Wyoming sent me to Washington to uphold: limited constitutional government, lower taxes and lower spending, individual initiative and entrepreneurship -- values that made America's economy the envy of the world.
