The federal government has no greater constitutional responsibility than protecting the American people. United States Armed Forces are the most well-equipped, highly-trained professional military in the world, and we need to keep them that way. The view of the battlefield on the ground is far different than from Washington. That is why it is so critical for Congress and the Administration to listen to our military leaders on the ground.

Wyoming's soldiers have always been ready and willing to respond to the call of duty in defense of our great nation, as they have for our operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. I was proud to spend a Thanksgiving with our Wyoming soldiers in Kuwait and thank them personally for their service. No amount of compensation will adequately reflect the sacrifices being made by these individuals. But Congress should do its best to give them and their families medical care and other benefits to ensure a high quality of life, in particular for the family members of those that end up paying the ultimate sacrifice. My state offices and I stand ready to assist the families, friends and Wyoming communities affected by military deployments.
