McNerney to Hold First Congress at Your Corner of 2011 in Stockton

Press Release

Date: Jan. 24, 2011
Location: Stockton, CA

Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-11) today announced he will hold a Congress at Your Corner on Thursday, January 27th, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Stockton's Cesar Chavez Central Library, located at 605 North El Dorado Street. In light of the tragic event in Arizona earlier this month, Congressman McNerney is also inviting the community to attend the event as a message of support for the victims of the shooting.

"I'm firmly committed to being accessible to the people I represent," said Rep. McNerney. "Over the past four years, I've held dozens of these events and always enjoyed the opportunity to hear directly from the people I represent about their thoughts and ideas. I encourage people to come share their thoughts and ideas with me."

To honor the victims of the shooting, the Congress at Your Corner will begin with a moment of silence. Attendees will also have the opportunity to write notes of support to Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, who is recovering from the attack. Congressman McNerney will later deliver these notes to the Congresswoman's office in Washington, D.C.

"In light of the tragedy in Arizona, I'm also inviting the public to attend this event to express their support for the victims of the shooting and write notes to Gabby Giffords, my dear friend and colleague," continued Rep. McNerney. "I know that personal and heartfelt words of support from our community will be greatly appreciated during this difficult time."

Since taking office in 2007, Congressman McNerney has become known for holding Congress at Your Corner events at community locations such as libraries and coffee shops. Over the years, hundreds of people have attended these events to share their opinions and ask for assistance resolving issues with a federal agency. The event on Thursday will mark the 63rd Congress at Your Corner hosted by Congressman McNerney.

In order to provide all participants at this Congress at Your Corner the opportunity to ask a question or share a comment directly with their representative, Congressman McNerney will meet with small groups of people based on the order in which they arrive.
