Issue Position: Cyber Security

Issue Position

Perhaps the most imminent security threat America faces is in Cyberspace. You don't see it and you don't hear much about it. But every day, from thousands of miles away, increasingly sophisticated foreign adversaries are electronically infiltrating sensitive U.S. computer networks to obtain military technologies. Foreign competitors and criminals unabashedly steal trade secrets from American companies through similar methods. Critical systems that run our financial, energy, and transportation infrastructures have also become victims of cyber attack and exploitation. Today's hackers are organized crime syndicates and national militaries that commit espionage.

As co-chair of the Commission on Cybersecurity for the 44th Presidency, I, along with the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), worked with dozens of the best and brightest private sector experts and government officials to develop recommendations to secure cyberspace and protect our national interests. Our Commission presented these recommendations to the Obama administration and I will work with the administration to place Cyber Security at the forefront of its agenda.
