Huizenga Reaction to State of the Union

Statement

In his statement, Huizenga said:

"While I thought the President began with a few good entry points into the start of a longer national discussion, and reached out to Republicans on a number of issues, I thought he did not go far enough.

I would have liked to hear more specific details tonight, especially on spending cuts, the first step to economic recovery and job creation.

It's time we have an open and adult conversation about curtailing our spending, including entitlements. For example, freezing domestic spending to 2010 levels, accelerated by nearly 25 percent above 2008 levels, is just not far enough. That's $40 billion in savings a year but we had a $1.3 trillion deficit this year - where are we going to make up the rest?

The proof, of course, will be in the pudding, and the President was right when he said tonight it will take hard work and tough decisions. I'm anxious to work together and continue this conversation, especially as specifics emerge in the coming weeks and months, and the President releases his budget."
