Congressman Landry's Statement on the Further Division of the Former MMS

Statement

Date: Jan. 19, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Jeff Landry (Republican, New Iberia) released the following statement regarding the further division of the former MMS into the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management and the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement:

"There is no doubt we needed to improve the operations of MMS because their work is critical to the safety of our workers drilling offshore. However, it seems the Administration rolls out a new drilling "safety' agency every week. Sooner or later, the Administration is going to need to answer the question: do you actually want our drillers to go back to work or do you just want to regulate drilling out of existence through a litany of new agencies staffed with inexperienced bureaucrats?"
