Today, U.S. Representative Martin Heinrich (NM-1) was selected to serve on the House Armed Services Committee in the 112 Congress. Rep. Heinrich has been serving on the committee for the last two years.
While Rep. Heinrich will retain his seat on the Subcommittee on Strategic Forces, he will also be joining the Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces, which has jurisdiction over a number of important programs including HH-60 helicopters, F-35 aircraft, Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles, body armor, counter-IED technologies, and National Guard modernization.
Rep. Heinrich said he sees opportunities on both subcommittees to strengthen our national security and bolster central New Mexico's economy.
"I am ready to get back to work for the people of central New Mexico," said Rep. Heinrich. "The Strategic Forces Subcommittee is a natural fit for my district and I am glad I will be able to continue supporting programs that benefit both Sandia National Laboratories and Kirtland Air Force Base. Further, I am proud to serve on the Tactical Air and Land Forces Subcommittee which will oversee a number of critical programs that directly impacts the New Mexico National Guard, Kirtland Air Force Base, and the members of our military serving abroad."
Additional committee assignments will be announced as they are confirmed.
