Congresswoman Buerkle Named Vice Chair of Congressional Oversight Subcommittee

Today, House of Representatives Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (CA-49) named Congresswoman Ann Marie Buerkle (NY-25) as Vice Chair of the Subcommittee on Regulatory Affairs, Stimulus Oversight and Government Spending. The subcommittee is chaired by Republican Congressman Jim Jordan (OH-4). The Regulatory Affairs Subcommittee has oversight jurisdiction over regulatory affairs, stimulus policy, federal spending, education, agriculture, and communications policy. In addition, its legislative jurisdiction extends over federal paperwork reduction, data quality, and the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs.

Congressman Issa said of Buerkle's appointment, "To bring back robust growth and widespread prosperity in our economy, we need to rein in excessive government regulation, and out-of-control government spending. As Vice Chairman, Ann Marie will be able to take her first hand experience navigating through red tape as a lawyer, a nurse, and a small business owner and help advance real change in Washington."

"The Oversight and Government Reform Committee, under Chairman Issa's leadership has an ambitious agenda, and one that I am ready to get to work on." Buerkle commented. "When we begin to examine how our federal tax dollars are spent, and start to unravel some of the tangled channels of our oversized government, I have no doubt that we will find real savings along with ways to consolidate services and eliminate obsolete practices. There is going to be some real progress made in the 112th Congress toward making our government leaner and stronger."

In addition to the House Oversight Committee, Congresswoman Buerkle also sits on the House Veterans' Affairs and the Foreign Affairs Committees.
