Lankford Participates in Reading of Constitution on House Floor

Statement

Congressman James Lankford (R-OK) issued the following statement after being one of 140 members of the House of Representatives to read a passage of the Constitution aloud in the well of the House. This is the first time the nation's founding document has been publically recited in the House.

"All too often, we have forgotten the vision the Founding Fathers laid out for this country and that is why today was so important," said Congressman Lankford. "We need to get back to the basics as a government and this refresher course should remind everyone of the principles of freedom, liberty and limited government our country was built upon.

"It was an honor to take part in today's historic reading. This was a great way to begin the 112th Congress and it is my hope that this text will guide me and my fellow members as we begin working for the American people."
