Capito Cosponsors Bill To Repeal 1099 Provision In The Democrats' Healthcare Law

Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito, R.W.Va., signed on as an original cosponsor of H.R. 144, a bill to repeal the expansion of information reporting requirements for payments of $600 or more to corporations, and for other purposes. The bill already has 185 cosponsors.

"The repeal of the 1099 tax provision is essential to help job growth in our nation. I'm not sure why this was placed in the healthcare bill in the first place, but nevertheless I am committed to repealing this provision to prevent small businesses from bearing the burden of this job-killing, unnecessary tax," stated Capito.

The 1099 filing requirement, which states that small businesses must fill out a tax form for any purchase made over $600, received much attention in the months following the passage of the Democrats' healthcare law. Despite calls for its immediate repeal, it did not pass the Democrat-controlled Congress.

"This Congress' top priority is getting our nation's economy back on track and that begins with ensuring that small businesses can grow and expand. We will do everything we can to work to repeal this job-killing provision as soon as possible," stated Capito.

Capito cosponsored similar legislation in the 111th Congress.
