Graves Sworn in as Chairman of House Small Business Committee

Today, Congressman Sam Graves of Missouri was sworn in as Chairman of the House Small Business Committee. Mr. Graves is the first Republican farmer and small business owner in history to chair the Committee.

"We have a big job ahead of us in the 112th Congress. Unemployment remains at a record high and millions of people are out of work. Entrepreneurs are struggling to create jobs and grow their businesses amid threats of higher taxes and more unmanageable federal mandates. Our economic recovery has been erratic, at best.

"For too long, leaders in Washington have taken advantage of the trust bestowed upon them by the American people and allowed our country to continue on an unsustainable path of record spending and debt. That ends today.

"The new House Small Business Committee Majority is ready to help restore the honor of the People's House and fulfill the promises made in the Pledge to America. I am humbled by this new opportunity to serve, and I am eager to get to work on addressing the challenges we face in 2011."
