Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) released the following statement yesterday regarding the shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, a staffer, and some of her constituents at a Congress on Your Corner event in Arizona.

"My thoughts and prayers are with my friend and colleague Gabby Giffords, her family and staff, and all those hurt or killed in the shooting today in Arizona. Gabby is a dedicated public servant, skilled legislator, and caring individual. I admire her commitment to furthering public discourse and to gathering input from her constituents. I am shocked and saddened by today's events and wish Gabby and all the others injured a quick recovery."

The Congressman's district schedule for the coming week, including brown bag lunches in Westport and Fairfield, remains unchanged. No determinations regarding security have yet been made, but we will take the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of the Congressman and his constituents.
