Congressman Joe Courtney today released the following statement after the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in Arizona:

"Gabrielle Giffords is one of the smartest, most caring members of Congress I know. We entered Congress the same year and have served together on the Armed Services Committee, where she has distinguished herself as a strong supporter of the Air Force and military families. I am praying for her and the other victims of today's shooting. I condemn this dastardly attack on her and our democracy."
