U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) issued the following statement after a federal judge in Virginia ruled that the individual mandated in the health care law is unconstitutional:
"This is an important legal victory that confirms what Arkansans and the American public have long believed; the health care law is an overreach of government that violates our constitution and is a threat to our freedoms. The individual mandate puts the government in control of determining what health insurance is acceptable for us. This unprecedented power grab has the potential to pave the way to unlimited power for the federal government and is a dangerous precedent that extends well beyond health care. I am pleased the court has recognized that this is unconstitutional.
We need real health care reform that provides quality, affordable access for all Americans, not overly burdensome regulations on families and small businesses. That is why I will continue to fight to repeal the health care law."
