Boozman Supports Commonsense Extension of Child Nutrition Programs

Statement

U.S. Representative John Boozman released the following statement after voting against unfunded government mandates and an expansion of the federal government:

"As a Co-Chairman of the House Congressional Hunger Caucus I am committed to fighting hunger and food insecurity in our communities, particularly in children. I strongly support a safety net that protects the most vulnerable Arkansans. Republicans proposed a non controversial, straightforward, common sense extension of existing programs with simple improvements for nutrition and food safety but without the unfunded mandates stealth taxes on middle class families and deficit spending included in S. 3307.

"Unfortunately, Speaker Pelosi has used the 111th Congress to force partisan priorities through the political process. With little legislative time left in the 111th Congress, the Speaker has opted to bypass regular order and bring a bill to the floor that has had no oversight from the House Agriculture Committee, nor the House Education Committee.

"S. 3307 is simply more of the same big government "solutions" that American voters recently rejected. Rather than address the core causes of food insecurity such as access, poverty and education; this bill creates or expands 17 government programs, extends federal control over state and local governments and our schools and is opposed by school administrators as well as the bipartisan National Governor's Association. I will continue working to fight food insecurity and hunger as we move forward to the 112th Congress."
