I am a strong supporter of E-Verify. E-Verify is a program run by the Federal government that helps certify that newly hired employees are legally authorized to work in the United States.
The E-Verify program provides an automated link to federal databases to help employers determine employment eligibility of new hires and the validity of their Social Security numbers. E-Verify is the only official U.S. government source that provides employers in the United States with real-time data that takes the subjectivity out of verifying employment eligibility. According to U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services (USCIS), 96.1% of employees are confirmed as work authorized without any type of mismatch notice or need for action by the employee or employer. 99.6% of work-authorized employees are verified without having to take corrective action.
There are over 100,000 employers who participate in the E-Verify system and the USCIS announced that the number of participating employers is growing by thousands each week.
E-Verify improves homeland security and provides employers with an essential tool to ensure that employees they hire are legally authorized to work. Furthermore, E-Verify effectively exposes social security and other types of fraud.
