December 2010 E-News - Budget

Statement

Date: Dec. 1, 2010

The co-chairs of the President's National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility have released their final plan to hold down long-term spending and gain control of our burgeoning debt. As a member of the commission, I was initially concerned that the panel would take a too limited view, and not be willing to suggest the bold steps that are needed to halt the unsustainable spending course that our county is on. But the plan presented by the co-chairs is a serious plan that deserves serious consideration against the option of continuing with the unsustainable status quo. The commission has been able to address a number of my concerns, but I remain most troubled by not what is in the plan, but instead what has not been included. In the coming days, I will thoroughly review the plan to determine whether it provides the necessary spending control and economic growth opportunities to move our nation's fiscal situation in the right direction. The commission is expected to vote on the plan on Friday, December 3. Please visit my website for more information.
