Peters on the Latest Milestone for General Motors

Representative Gary Peters issued the following statement regarding tomorrow's IPO for General Motors.

"The future of General Motors is as bright today as it has ever been thanks to the men and women of the American auto industry, whose hard work and shared sacrifice made the difficult task of restructuring possible. It is now unquestionably clear that stepping in to save the auto industry, saving over a million jobs, and preserving the backbone of our nation's manufacturing sector was the right thing to do."

Peters is a champion for the domestic automobile industry, fighting for federal support through the restructuring process, speaking out against unfair trade policies that disadvantage American automobile companies, and passing legislation to support the research and development of the next generation of vehicles. Last year Peters also led the grassroots "Make it in Michigan' campaign to promote Orion Assembly as the site for GM small car production, gathering support from over 30,000 people.

Peters' Michigan congressional district is home to two General Motors plants, Chrysler World Headquarters and more auto suppliers than any district in the country.
