Connecticut's transportation infrastructure is among the oldest in the nation, and faces a number of challenges to meet the transportation needs of today and in the future. Improving the condition of our infrastructure is tied directly to our economy by investing in jobs, reducing congestion and ensuring that both people and goods can get to where they need to go.
Congressman Courtney's work on key transportation and infrastructure issues:
Supporting Connecticut's Transportation Infrastructure. Improving and expanding our transportation infrastructure is critical to the future of eastern Connecticut. Since entering Congress, I have been a staunch supporter of robust funding for our highways, passenger rail systems like Amtrak and new mass transit. And, I have worked to secure funding and support for transportation priorities across eastern Connecticut, from reducing congestion on I-95 to developing the New Haven-Hartford-Springfield commuter rail line that will one day run through Enfield.
Completion of Route 11. The expansion of Route 11 is critical to meeting the needs of our region and the people who live there. Unfortunately, the project has languished for years in the face of repeated administrative road blocks and multiple bureaucracies at the state and federal level. Since coming to Congress, I have been working closely with State and Federal officials to move the Route 11 project forward. The Route 11 project is critical to the future of eastern Connecticut and I will continue to make this project a priority.
