DeLauro Joins Million Calorie March Leader to Fight Obesity

New Haven, CT - Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (D-CT) today joined Gary Marino, of the Million Calorie March, State Senators Bill Aniskovich and Joe Crisco and Joe Canzanella, Physical Education Director from the City of New Haven to celebrate Mr. Marino's arrival in the Greater New Haven area, on his journey to walk off million calories.

"Gary's journey is an inspiration to all of us," said DeLauro. "His commitment to live a healthier life through changing his diet and exercise habits are a positive example to the millions of Americans struggling with obesity. These life changes are not easy, and we have a responsibility to do what we can to help people live healthier lives. The MEAL Act would help customers learn more about the nutrition in the fast food and chain restaurant food they are eating."

"I am hopeful that Gary's walk will shed light on obesity as a critical public health issue," said DeLauro. "It costs the United States over $100 billion in health care and related costs each year, and is linked to many other health problems, such as high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, diabetes and other respiratory disorders. I congratulate Gary and look forward to continuing to work with him to combat obesity."
