The Economy Lost 96,000 Jobs

Today, the national unemployment numbers were released and the numbers are worse than most economists anticipated. The United States lost more than 96,000 jobs in September, keeping unemployment at a dismal 9.6%. For over 20 months, Liberal Ann Kirkpatrick has been telling her constituents that the nearly trillion dollar "stimulus" bill would help the economy, but unemployment has only skyrocketed under her "leadership."

Dr. Gosar, a small businessman and healthcare provider with a history of creating jobs, released the following statement on today's report:

"This stimulus has been an abysmal failure and has done nothing but add to the already staggering debt and deficit," said Gosar. "It is time that we change business as usual in Washington. We cannot tax and spend our way to prosperity; we must stop the Washington spending sprees and wasteful government programs. You cannot create jobs by growing government; you create jobs by empowering small businesses and easing the burden on overtaxed families. Ann Kirkpatrick stood lock-step with Nancy Pelosi and voted to spend $787 billion of taxpayer money on a program that has failed the entire nation. I will restore fiscal responsibility to Washington and put small businesses and hard-working families first."

In a press release touting her vote for the failed stimulus bill, Ann Kirkpatrick says, "This is the first step among many we will need to take to get folks back to work and our economy back on track."

Really Ann, where are the jobs?

FACT: In February 2009, Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick voted for final passage of the $787 billion stimulus package.

FACT: According to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office, the cost of the stimulus package could reach $1 trillion.

FACT: The stimulus bill that Kirkpatrick voted for included a loophole that allowed AIG executives to receive millions in bonuses after receiving federal assistance.

FACT: The Washington Times has recently reported that the Department of Energy acknowledged that $2.3 billion of manufacturing tax credits in the stimulus went to foreign firms that employ workers primarily in the countries of China, South Korea and Spain.

FACT: Stimulus figures and recovery.gov have been "riddled with errors," such as reporting jobs being created in Arizona congressional districts that do not exist.

FACT: Democrats told the nation that if the stimulus bill did not pass, unemployment would rise to 9%. Unemployment is now at 9.6% despite the "stimulus" bill.

FACT: The White House originally estimated that the stimulus would increase employment by 3.5 million jobs, but nearly 3 million jobs have been LOST since its passage.

FACT: As of June 30, 2010, Arizona's First Congressional District has received $709,260,804 in stimulus funding. Recovery.gov reports that with this funding 3,610.6 jobs have been "saved or created" in AZ-01. That means the cost to save or create each of these jobs was $196,438.48 per job. Meanwhile, the median household income in AZ-01 is $41,997.

FACT: Since Ann Kirkpatrick has been in Congress, Arizona's unemployment rate has increased 20% and more than 30,000 jobs have been lost.
