LEGISLATORS TO LOBBYISTS; A TWO YEAR "COOLING OFF" PERIOD

Legislators who leave public office should be barred from acting as paid lobbyists at the Capitol for a period of up to two years. Senator Marty's bill made it to the floor in 2009 and 2010 but has not been taken up for a vote. (SF 351:Marty, Sieben, Rest, Erickson Ropes, Scheid). The House companion bill (HF759), authored by Reps. Bigham, Buesdgens, Swails and Greiling, was not given a hearing by Chair Pelowski in either session. I support the proposal and believe the current law generally allows former legislators what may at times be inappropriate access to the process.
