Issue Position: Job Creation/Economic Development

Issue Position

We need to create an economic environment that promotes job growth and private sector development. I will work together with employers and entrepreneurs toward policies that help grow our economy and stimulate job creation in the State of Minnesota.

According to the Tax Foundation's 2010 Small Business Tax Climate Index, Minnesota ranks 43 (50 being the worst) in the country, which makes it difficult to grow jobs and attract new business to our state. Small businesses account for over 78% of the jobs in the State of Minnesota and represent the future of our economy.

Instead of driving jobs out by imposing additional taxes and unnecessary regulations on entrepreneurs, we need to make it advantageous for employers to bring jobs into the state. As the number of jobs in the State of Minnesota decrease, so does our quality of life. We can turn this negative trend around by supporting entrepreneurs who provide jobs and support our communities. We need to grow jobs, not taxes.

As a famous Minnesota Mayor said, "The best welfare program is a job, the best health care program is a job, and the best way to ensure the people in our communities have the tools they need to succeed, is to create more jobs."
