Stephen Says Lynch Campaign Rhetoric On Debates Doesn't Match Facts

John Stephen, Republican nominee for New Hampshire Governor, today said the Governor Lynch's campaign rhetoric hasn't matched his actions regarding general election debates. On primary election night, Lynch called for five debates among the candidates. Two debates have taken place, and there is only one other currently scheduled, the WMUR/NH Union Leader Granite State Debate, set for October 27.

Governor Lynch avoided a debate in Nashua, sponsored by the Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce, demanding a "forum" format, in which the candidates did not appear on stage together. Additionally, he has declined a debate sponsored by WMUR.com, the Concord Monitor, WGIR-AM and New Hampshire Business Review at New England College.

"Unfortunately, John Lynch's campaign rhetoric does not match up to the actions of Governor Lynch," Stephen said. "Sadly, breaking promises to the public appears to be an ongoing problem for the Governor. The public deserves better, and certainly should have the opportunity to hear where the candidates stand on important issues facing New Hampshire."

Stephen said that he would have supported far more than five debates with Lynch through the general election cycle.

"It's disappointing that Governor Lynch doesn't want to give voters the chance to hear both candidates in an open, honest debate, where they can evaluate their stands on the issues," Stephen added. "However, it's not surprising that the Governor would want to hide from any occasion where his record of raising job killing taxes to pay for his out-of-control spending would be brought to light. I'm still willing to debate Governor Lynch at least five times, but he has shown, by the tone of his campaign and his ads, that he's more interested in mudslinging than in having a conversation about the great challenges that face our state."
