Blog: Joining the Bipartisan Call for Continued Middle East Talks

Just a few weeks ago a large group of bipartisan Senators wrote a letter to President Obama about the need for the continuation of peace talks in the Middle East. I firmly believe the United States must stand steadfast in encouraging and facilitating direct peace talks between the Israeli government and the Palestinians. Real peace in the Middle East is essential to our national security, and the future of the region. Despite the recent atrocities by Hamas militants, both parties remain at the table, and its important that the administration continue on the same path forward to allow them to come to an agreement themselves. Real peace demands it. I applaud the letter that bipartisan members of the Senate signed and sent to President Obama.

If I was in the Senate, I would have immediately signed that letter which promotes responsible and earnest negotiations between Israel and Palestine. The goal is peace in the Middle East is not for well wishers, it's for those who despite differences, come to the table and represent the best interests of those they serve. My prayers are with all parties for a successful negotiation to bring real stability to the region.
