Today, Republican Congressional candidate Tim Walberg released a new television advertisement highlighting that Democrat Congressman Mark Schauer is spending our children's future. Click here to view the ad.
Mark Schauer's trillions in new spending is digging our nation deeply into debt and spending our children's money. Mark Schauer has:
· Voted for Speaker Pelosi's almost $4 trillion Budget that increases the national debt by $5.3 trillion over the next five years. [Roll Call Vote 192 on 4-2-09]
· Voted for the Obama-Pelosi government takeover of health care that will cost trillions, raise taxes, impose burdensome regulations on small businesses, and reduce access to care. [Roll Call Vote 887 on 11-7-09]
· Voted for the $410 billion omnibus appropriations bill that increased spending by 8.4%, included over 8,000 earmarks, and raised spending for the operation of Congress by 11%. [Roll Call Vote 86 on 2-25-09]
· Voted for the $862 billion spending "stimulus" package (cost is well over a trillion when interest is counted). [Roll Call Vote 46 on 1-28-09]
For the $862 billion stimulus, Congressman Schauer pledged "vigorous oversight" to ensure the stimulus would be "administered efficiently and effectively," but here are a few examples of how stimulus dollars were wasted:
· $2 billion in energy spending created 6,000 jobs overseas.
· "researchers at Penn State University received $1.57 million to search for fossils in Argentina"
· "$100,000 for socially conscious puppet shows."
· $1 million to put up signs in Ohio advertising the use of stimulus funds.
· "The National Institutes of Health got $219,000 in funds to study whether female college students are more likely to "hook up' after drinking alcohol."
· "Half a million dollars went to Arizona State University to study the genetic makeup of ants to determine distinctive roles in ant colonies"
· "The State University of New York at Buffalo won $390,000 to study young adults who drink malt liquor and smoke marijuana."
· "$5 million grant from the Department of Energy to create a geothermal energy system for the Oak Ridge City Center shopping mall the mall has been losing tenants for years and is mostly empty."
"Our children cannot afford Mark Schauer's trillions in new spending. In Congress, I will take on the big spenders in Washington and fight to stop the overspending. The next generation deserves far better than to be saddled with a massive debt created by big spending Washington politicians like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Congressman Mark Schauer," said Tim Walberg.
