It is rare for a freshman member of the U.S. House to become the highest ranking member of his party on a committee, but congressional leaders recognized the expertise Brett provides on education issues and named him the ranking Republican member of the Subcommittee on Higher Education, Lifelong Learning and Competitiveness.
Brett has become a leader in finding ways to make college more affordable, and he opposes plans for a government takeover of the student loan industry. Brett has also been a strong supporter of the numerous colleges and universities in the second district.
As Congress prepares to reauthorize the "No Child Left Behind" legislation, Brett will have a seat at the table where he will be a key voice advocating for Kentucky's schools, teachers, parents, and children.
