John Stephen, Republican nominee for Governor, today began running a new television advertisement that highlights the 84 tax and fee increases signed into law by Governor Lynch over the past four years. These tax hikes include the rooms and meals tax increase, the car registration increase, the campground tax, a new saltwater fishing license and a number of tax increases on small businesses, such as the LLC tax and the major hike in the unemployment tax.

"The citizens of New Hampshire and our state's economy are paying the price for the choices that Governor Lynch made to raise taxes instead of making the tough decisions to rein in spending," Stephen said. "These taxes hikes mean fewer jobs and less money in the pockets of working families across the state. That's doesn't reflect New Hampshire values on low taxes, limited government and more economic prosperity. This ad shows why we need new leadership in Concord."

In the advertisement, Stephen points out that the state, under Governor Lynch, has fallen to 50th in the rankings by the non-partisan Tax Foundation in terms of having the highest business tax rate in the nation. He also calls for tax cuts to move toward growing the state's fragile economy.

"Having the highest business tax rate in the nation is robbing New Hampshire of our competitive edge, yet Governor Lynch added even more taxes on business this past budget, including the job-killing LLC tax on small business," Stephen added. "Our small businesses are already heavily overtaxed right now. We need a governor who will cut business taxes so that we can create jobs and get our economy moving again."
