Van Hollen Blasts House Republicans for Breaking Another "Pledge'

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Assistant to the Speaker, issued the following statement blasting the House Republicans for breaking their own pledge to require all legislation to contain a citation of Constitutional authority and to give all Representatives and citizens at least three days to read legislation before a vote:

"House Republicans promised in their "Pledge to America' that they would do two things procedurally -- allow the American people to see legislation 72 hours prior to a vote and include a citation of Constitutional authority in all legislation. But today they made public a 21 page motion to recommit to the 9/11 Health and Compensation Act less than an hour before a vote, and it contains no reference to Constitutional authority. This is just more of the same from Washington Republicans, who are apparently more concerned with scoring partisan political points than keeping their promises to the American people."
