Murray Gets Educator Endorsements, Grassroots Momentum

As teachers and students around the state head back to school this month, they're hitting the ground outside the classroom to announce their support for U.S. Senator Patty Murray.

Today, the Washington Education Association and American Federation of Teachers both endorsed Murray for re-election. "Patty has been an absolute champion for education," said Mary Lindquist, President of WEA. "As a preschool teacher, PTA president, school board member and mother, she has all the right experience when it comes to standing up for our kids. She gets it. She is on the side of kids and teachers. And when our kids' education is on the line, she never backs down."

"I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Washington Education Association and American Federation of Teachers," said Senator Patty Murray. "When I first went to fight in Olympia, it was because my kids' preschool program was on the line. I stood up to bureaucrats who told me I couldn't do anything because I was 'just a mom in tennis shoes,' and I won -- because it was the right thing for our kids. I will always fight to make sure our next generation has the opportunities they need to succeed."

Tonight, educators and students around the state will come together at Back to School for Murray nights, grassroots gatherings that will harness volunteers to spread the word about Patty Murray's strong record of fighting for Washington state students.
