Today, U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) issued the following statement after House Republicans unveiled A Pledge to America, a new governing agenda with solutions that will create jobs, cut spending and reform Washington:
"During my time serving the people of Wyoming in Congress, I've heard from Democrats, Independents and Republicans alike. They want jobs, they want our economy back on track and they do not want to saddle our children with debt.
"While people in Wyoming and people all over the country have been speaking out, those in power have carried out a job-killing, budget-busting agenda. The wishes of the American people have been blatantly and repeatedly disregarded.
"Americans don't want the type of health care reform that was pushed through Congress. They don't want cap and trade -- the largest tax increase in history, and they don't want to bail out Wall Street. It's time that the priorities of the people set the agenda in Washington.
"The GOP Pledge is a governing agenda that will end the economic uncertainty for American small businesses, make America more competitive, cut spending and rein in the budget deficit. It establishes a commitment to national and border security, calls for the repeal of the new health care law with a replacement that offers solutions to bring down costs, and presents a plan to provide real accountability and transparency in Washington.
"Republicans in Congress know that this is our only chance to prove to Americans that we are not the same old Republican Congress of ten years ago. We pledge to principles and ideas that are worthy of the "consent of the governed.'"
