Focus on Jobs

Statement

Date: Sept. 15, 2010

Dear Friend,

Most folks I meet with in East Alabama believe our nation is headed in the wrong direction.

I completely agree.

Since President Obama and the Democratic-controlled Congress have been running Washington, their legislative priorities have focused, in my opinion, too much on spending.

I continue to ask "where are the jobs?"

Just last week, President Obama proposed another $50 billion in stimulus spending.

The first stimulus has not had the effects the Democratic leadership promised, so why repeat a failed policy?

The health care reform bill, which I opposed, raises taxes on small business owners, threatening jobs.

Unemployment rates remain high. It's 16.7% in August, according to the Christian Science Monitor, if we count folks who are working only part-time or are discouraged from looking for a job.

Congress needs to control its spending and focus on job creation.

As always, my staff and I are here to serve you.

Sincerely,

Mike Rogers
