Congressman Jim Gerlach (PA-6th District) announced Thursday that constituents can review "A Pledge to America" -- a new governing agenda focused on addressing the American people's top priorities.
"This summer, families, job creators, seniors and others here in the 6th District joined millions of people across America in speaking out about the agenda they wanted Congress to pursue," Gerlach said. "What I, and many members of Congress, heard was that we need to refocus on common sense policies that keep taxes low, control skyrocketing deficits that force the federal government to borrow 40 cents for every dollar it spends and ensure employers spend more time investing in their companies and hiring workers than filling out paperwork to meet burdensome government regulations. Most of all, my constituents want leaders who listen.
"As a result, House Republicans have set a bold, refreshing agenda aimed at moving our country forward and renewing our commitment to working on sensible solutions. The ideas outlined in "A Pledge to America" deserve full consideration on the floor of the House immediately. If House Democratic leaders do not like the policies, then they put up a "no" vote.
"Finally, the unveiling of "A Pledge to America" is not the end of the dialogue with constituents that we started earlier this year with the innovative "America Speaking Out" initiative. I look forward to meeting with local employers, community organizations and people throughout the 6th District to hear their ideas and make sure their voices are heard in Washington. The last thing we need is more of the same arrogance in Washington that resulted in a $1 trillion so-called stimulus that has led to higher unemployment, a $2.4 trillion government-mandated insurance plan that buries employers paperwork, digs a deeper budget hole for cash-strapped states like Pennsylvania and forces millions of seniors to switch Medicare prescription drug coverage plans even if they like the plan they have right now."
