Griffith Statement on Boucher Attending Stand Up for Coal Jobs Rally in DC

In a statement release from his Christiansburg office today, Congressional Candidate Morgan Griffith called on Congressman Rick Boucher to explain his position on Cap and Trade when he speaks at the Faces of Coal rally in Washington DC this morning:

"Rick Boucher owes the people who make their living from coal an explanation of his vote for Cap and Trade legislation, which will kill coal jobs all over Virginia and West Virginia," said Morgan Griffith.

Rick Boucher will share the stage of the rally sponsored by Citizens for Coal, the Federation for American Coal Energy and Security, the West Virginia Coal Association and Faces of Coal with Congressman Nick Rahall from West Virginia, and a number of other Congressmen and Senators who voted against Cap and Trade.

"Maybe Boucher can tell the crowd why Congressman Rahall was wrong to vote against the legislation" said Griffith. "Maybe Congressman Boucher can explain to Rahall how planting trees will increase coal production"

"Coal minors and people employed by the coal industry, as well as their families, traveled seven hours up to Washington from southwest Virginia," said Griffith. "They deserve answers from their Congressman, and they certainly haven't gotten any from candidates debates. The least Rick Boucher can do is explain his vote on Cap and Trade to them."

Boucher has thus far refused to debate the cap and trade legislation with Griffith.
