Hoeven Proclaims September 11 Day Of Service And Remembrance In Commemoration Of Patriot Day Governor Directs Flags to Fly at Half Staff

In accordance with a presidential proclamation and in commemoration of Patriot Day, Gov. John Hoeven has declared September 11 a Day of Service and Remembrance in the state to mark the ninth anniversary of the terrorist attacks carried out against this nation on September 11, 2001.

Hoeven is directing all government agencies to fly the American and North Dakota flags at half staff from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, September 11. He is also encouraging North Dakotans to display the flags at half staff at their homes and to observe this day with appropriate ceremonies, activities and remembrance services to honor the innocent lives lost and those who protect and defend our way of life.

"As we mark the ninth anniversary of this solemn and defining moment in our nation's history, we remember the thousands of innocent victims lost, extend our thoughts and prayers to their families, and honor the men and women who risked and sacrificed their lives so others might survive," Hoeven said. "On this day and every day, we recognize our brave men and women in uniform and all of our veterans, the dedicated members of our public safety, law enforcement and intelligence communities, and the thousands of others who work night and day to protect us from harm and preserve the freedom of this great nation."

Hoeven will commemorate September 11 by attending the North Dakota Air National Guard Hometown Heroes Salute at 8:30 a.m. at the Air National Guard base in Fargo. At 2 p.m., he will attend a recognition ceremony at the North Dakota Global War on Terrorism Memorial at Fraine Barracks in Bismarck. He will also welcome home veterans returning on the World War II Roughrider Honor Flight at 9 p.m. at the Bismarck Municipal Airport.
