U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell made the following remarks Friday regarding the President's press conference and his insistence on tax hikes:
"Like small businesses and families across the country, I was disappointed to hear the President insist on raising taxes on hundreds of thousands of small businesses and families across the country. The President spent a lot of time blaming others and talking about more government spending. But Americans want to know that Washington is going to stop the reckless spending and debt, the burdensome red-tape and job-killing taxes. They're speaking up. They want to know that Washington is finally listening.
"But I agree wholeheartedly with the President that we need to do everything we can to fight al Qaeda, while being clear who the enemy is. And that Congress and the nation must remain resolved that Afghanistan can no longer serve as a sanctuary for al Qaeda."
