Braley, Klobuchar Discuss Jobs, Economy in Des Moines

Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) joined Rep. Bruce Braley (D-Iowa) in Des Moines today to tour Lumberman's Wholesale Company. Klobuchar and Braley visited Lumberman's to discuss the work being done to create jobs and strengthen the economy, as well as the importance of the Small Business Administration and its role supporting and strengthening America's small businesses.

"We've been working tirelessly to strengthen the economy and create more jobs for Iowa's middle class families," Braley said. "Lumberman's is a great example of what we can do to help small businesses survive this harsh economic climate and encourage economic growth in our communities. We need to continue passing legislation that keeps local entrepreneurship thriving, creating growth and boosting the local economy with jobs that can't be sent overseas."

"Small businesses in Minnesota, Iowa, and throughout the country are critical to leading the way to economic recovery and job creation," Klobuchar said. "Giving our small businesses access to credit and new opportunities, such as promoting exports, is vital to driving economic growth, and I will continue to work to pass legislation in the Senate with those goals in mind."

In June, the House passed the Small Business Jobs and Credit Act, which will deliver loans to small businesses across the country to create jobs and stimulate the economy. The loans will come through local community banks from a $30 billion lending fund. Loans will be repaid over the next ten years, saving the taxpayers $1 billion.

The legislation also included Braley's Plain Language Act, which required federal agencies, like the Small Business Administration, to use plain, simple concise language in documents released to the public. Plain language will increase government accountability and save taxpayers, community banks and small business owners critical time and money.
