"Calls on Mitchell to Return Anti-Arizona Money"
David Schweikert, CD5 Republican nominee, today pledged to reject any funds from groups that boycott Arizona. In doing so, Schweikert called on Congressman Mitchell to take the same pledge and return the hundreds of thousands of dollars in anti-Arizona money he has accepted over the years.
"It's simply wrong for Arizona candidates to be taking financial support from groups and special interests calling for a boycott of Arizona," said Schweikert. "I would hope Congressman Mitchell would put Arizona first and reject support from these anti-Arizona groups and, as a gesture of support for our state, return the money he has accepted in the past from these groups."
Liberal labor unions have spent and are planning to spend hundreds of thousand of dollars trying to keep Congressman Mitchell in office. These include the very same unions that are calling for boycotts of Arizona's economy, like the SEIU and UFCW.
Schweikert continued, "I don't expect Congressman Mitchell and I to agree on many things. But I would hope we could agree on this: Arizona candidates should not be beholden to groups that are actively seeking to harm the economy of the state that the Congressman and I both call home."
