House GOP Proposses Job and Spending Recovery Plan

Wednesday, September 8, 2010, House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) proposed a two-point plan for immediate, bipartisan action to put people back to work again and get Washington spending under control.

When Congress returns to voting next week, two immediate actions should be under consideration:

1. Pass a bill that cuts non-security related government spending for the next year back to Fiscal Year 2008 levels

The federal government has thrown trillions of borrowed dollars into the Wall Street bailout, auto bailouts, state bailouts, and the Stimulus package, without results. This past Monday, President Barack Obama proposed another $50 billion Stimulus package when most of the original Stimulus has yet to be spent. Fiscal discipline must be restored to promote job creation and restore confidence.

2. Enact a 2 year freeze on all current tax rates to stop job-killing tax hikes on families and small businesses.

Employers of all sizes, and especially small businesses, are paralyzed from economic action in anticipation of the coming tax hikes and new regulatory hurdles Washington is creating. Will the current tax rates be extended? Will businesses have to meet all of the new tax and regulatory standards imposed by ObamaCare? Will Cap-and-Trade raise home and business energy costs? Will card check pass?

Businesses cannot be expected to hire or to invest resources to expand if tax and regulatory uncertainty looms.

Congress should act swiftly to restore spending discipline and end job-killing tax hikes.
