Congresswoman Laura Richardson Announces that 2,000 Employers Across Nation are Being Accepted Into the Affordable Care Act's Early Retiree Reinsurance Program

Today, Congresswoman Richardson announced that, in the first round alone, nearly 2,000 employers across the country are being accepted into the Affordable Care Act's Early Retiree Reinsurance Program. Once fully implemented, this program could potentially help hundreds of thousands of Americans aged 55 to 64, who are too young for Medicare, retain early retiree coverage from their employer.
"I fought long and hard for this legislation," Congresswoman Richardson said. "When I look into the eyes of the men and women whom I meet and talk with from across the 37th District, I am moved by their stories. These individuals are not statistics to be factored into a cost-benefit analysis, nor can they be compromised for the sake of a balanced budget.

"These early retirees deserve to have both peace of mind and access to quality health care," Congresswoman Richardson added. "This announcement is a positive step toward ensuring that Americans have access to affordable health care. There is no reason why Americans should live in worry over the state of their physical well-being. Healthcare is not a privilege, but a right for all."

Congresswoman Richardson is a Democrat from California's 37th Congressional District. She is a member of the House Committees on Transportation & Infrastructure and Homeland Security. Her district includes Long Beach, Compton, Carson, Watts, Willowbrook and Signal Hill. She is chair of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Emergency Communications, Preparedness, and Response.
