This evening, U.S. Reps. Carolyn Maloney and Jerrold Nadler issued the following joint statement on President Obama's statement of support for the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, a bill they authored to provide health care and economic relief for those harmed by the 9/11 attacks.
"We applaud the President's statement that he will sign the Zadroga Act, and we hope that he will join us in urging both houses of Congress to pass the bill on a bipartisan basis when we return in September. The thousands of responders and survivors who are sick as a result of 9/11 have been suffering for too long with too little help from the federal government, and we have a moral obligation to help them."
Today, the White House announced that "The President looks forward to signing the 9/11 health bill into law, once it passes both houses of Congress, to help the first responders whose health and livelihood were devastated by the events of September 11th."
