Honoring the Commitment of Military Families

Statement

This week, the last of the U.S. Combat brigades are leaving Iraq. This is a time to honor those American heroes who have served their country with selflessness. They never once wavered from the mission of protecting American freedom. I am filled with gratitude for all that the men and women in uniform have done for America.

It is also a time to reflect upon the loss of nearly 4,500 fallen soldiers over these past seven years, who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. We will never forget their valor and commitment. As we welcome home the service members who are returning from Iraq, we mustn't forget that we still have troops and civilians there and that America's military continues to serve us all around the globe.

My commitment to our troops remains strong. While they serve their country, their families back home also make great sacrifices. That's why I recently became a founding member of the Senate Military Family Caucus. We owe it to military families to make their lives a little bit easier. Through the Caucus, we will address the unique challenges they face, like childcare, education, jobs, and the toll of multiple deployments. I'm proud of Colorado's military families and all that they do. The Military Family Caucus is one small part of doing right by these brave men and women.
