Issue Position

I passionately believe that every person in our State should have access to healthcare. Unfortunately, healthcare costs in Washington have increased substantially over the last decade.

However, I do not believe that the federal legislation recently passed by Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid was the right solution for Washington State. Apart from its poor design, it places unaffordable mandates on Washington State and its citizens. I believe its passage will ultimately lead to a more costly healthcare system, increased taxes and lower quality of care.

Instead I would propose reforms to our current healthcare legislation to bring down costs and improve access, for example allow the younger generation to purchase alternative health insurance plans at more affordable rates, consider tort reform, and boost competition by allowing providers to sell insurance across state lines.
